The re-imagined exhibition on the ground floor of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center’s main foyer unravels the rich history of the Cup, which belongs to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
Covering 1835 to the present, the exhibition spotlights the context and the circumstances in which the first modern Olympic Games and the idea of the marathon race arose, featuring well-known figures and unsung heroes; the silver cup as the winner’s prize; and the success of the marathon as an institution that has become omnipresent.
The visitors’ experience is enriched by an innovative interactive wall, a mural featuring the engraved depiction of the Cup with animated elements that add a fun element to the project, and the projected figure of Spyridon Louis, who, with the help of artificial intelligence, discreetly welcomes visitors to the renewed version of the space.
The exhibition is fully accessible.
